Last week was pretty busy getting ready for the village fete so just finding time to stick up our production pictures now. This year our stall took a new twist on the traditional strongman high striker game and instead of hiting a ball up a wire to strike the bell, we created a giant ghetto blaster which when you hit the play button depending on how hard you hit it, you tune the radio in to play a different hip hop song. e.g. if you hit the play button softly you get “You are Killing me Softly…” , if you hit it hard, you get “Can’t touch this!” . Oh yeah and you have to hit it with a Giant Golden Mallet!!!… Yes it was amazing!

The capacitance sensor for the boardroom table was enlarged this week. Shawn used the milling machine to carve out the copper plates and then I tested the sensor underneath the 10mm glass table in the meeting room…. it worked perfectley!!!! The final slider sensor will be double this size so more milling to come!

Went to visit the RCA show on friday. Here’s some pics i took ….

This is an avatar suit by marc owens. It has a camera with a wide angled lens that is held out from the back of the suit. This transmits images to the visor and so allows the wearer to see themselves in third person walking around the real world. Pretty cool!
“Avatar Machine is a system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head mounted interface. The system potentially allows for a diminished sense of social responsibility, and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment.” Marc Owens

This work is by Alice Wang. The alarm clock hacks the contact list of your mobile and if you don’t wake up on time, it picks out names at random and calls them. The scales allow you to lie to yourself. The further back you stand the lighter you are… the more you move forward the closer you come to reality.
